Media Information About XC Oregon
XC Oregon is a non-profit cross country ski elite development program based in Bend, Oregon. The program focuses on adult athletes ranging in age from 20-40+ years with the goal for each athlete being regional, national, and international racing excellence.
XC Oregon athletes compete in events including local citizen races, major ski marathons, North American elite series, World Cups, and even dryland/multisport events year-round. With one of the largest rosters of any similar program in the world, it is not unusual to see XC Oregon athletes racing in events on multiple continents and multiple states…all on the same weekend!
Founded in Spring 1998, XC Oregon is supported by public donations, foundation grants, and corporate sponsorships. The program is led by Founder/Coach J.D. (John) Downing with sports science direction provided by Dr. Julie Downing. A 501(c)(3) organization, oversight is provided by a small, volunteer Board of Directors of interested Oregon-based skiers and program supporters.
