Sarah Max

SarahMax300Relative to most competitive cross-country skiers, Sarah is a late bloomer. In 2003, her father-in-law dragged her to Mt. Bachelor’s nordic center, rented her equipment, paid for her lesson and sent her out the door with one essential piece of advice: “Don’t pull your hat all the way down over your ears. They’ll laugh at you.” She spent the next few winters improving her skate skiing technique and in 2006 worked up the courage to enter her first race, the Great Nordeen in Bend. Encouraged by her results, she signed up for the Boulder Mountain Tour in Sun Valley, where she finished 16 th and made her father-in-law oh so proud. That spring, Sarah joined XC Oregon and started training year round for cross country skiing.
